Lou Henry Hoover, first lady, Stanford graduate, and avid outdoor enthusiast brought Girl Scouting to the west coast. Mrs. Hoover was an active Girl Scout moving from troop leader to president of the national organization throughout her career. After her husband's presidency, Hoover returned to the west coast bringing Girl Scouting with her, first to Palo Alto. World Thinking Day on February 22, is the day Girl Scouts and Girl Guides participate in activities that honor their sisters in scouting around the world. It is also the mutual birthday of Lord-Baden Powel and Lady Olave Powel, the founder, and World Cheif Guide of scouting in England.

Brownie Girl Scouts are "real" Girl Scouts. In 1963 the Girl Scout program changed to include Brownie, Junior, Cadette, and Senior Girl Scout program levels. In 1980 the Daisy Girl Scout program was also added.
