Camp Butano Creek is located on 145 acres of beautiful old growth redwood forest that is protected with a conservation easement supported by The Sempervirens Fund, just seven miles from Pescadero in San Mateo County.
Our hiking trails offer a variety of short and long hikes with a connector trail to Butano State Park’s trail system. The majestic Pacific Ocean with numerous State Beaches is only fifteen-minutes by car. Our nature trail winds through a old growth redwood grove with trees that are over 1,000 years old. Butano Creek offers a great connection to the outdoors with basic comforts.

Driving time from San Francisco:
Pescadero is 15 miles south of Half Moon Bay and approximately an hour drive from San Francisco.
Facilities Overview
Total Camp Capacity: 175 people
Sleeping Shelters: Three modern sleeping cabins (Sequoia, Penny Royal, Redwood). Each cabin has a maximum sleeping capacity of 25. Each cabin has a wood-burning stove. Outdoor covered cooking shelters are provided that include a barbecue, picnic tables and counter space. A centrally located shower/toilet building is shared between Sequoia and Penny Royal cabins. Redwood has indoor toilets and shower. All gear must be carried from the unloading areas to the shelters. Wheel carts are available from the site manager. NOTE: Beginning in 2012, Sequoia and Penny Royal are available seasonally, March 1st to December 1st.
Huckleberry: Four platform tents (4 beds/tent) for overnight use. An outdoor cooking area is provided and includes a barbecue, picnic tables, food storage. The unit has its own water and flush toilets. Capacity is 24.
Toyon: Five platform tents (4 beds/tent). We provide sleeping for 20 persons; you may sleep up to 30 in Toyon, however you must bring your own tent(s) for the additional 10 persons. Toyon includes picnic tables, cooking area, barbecue, water and flush toilets. Capacity is 30.
Dining Hall/Commercial Kitchen: Fully functional state of the art commercial kitchen and dining hall are available and have a capacity of 150. Dining hall can be rented separately without the kitchen. Kitchen users must provide trained cooks with a state food handler’s certification.
Laurel Cabin: Sleeps 34 in large multi- purpose/sleeping room. Day use capacity is 45. Also includes a smaller meeting room with fireplace, one adult sleeping room, toilets and showers (indoor and outdoor). Outdoor cooking area has a barbecue, campfire circle and picnic tables for portable camping propane stoves. Bring coolers for perishables. It is not possible to drive to Laurel Cabin. All cars must park in the lot provided and carry gear approximately 50 yards across the creek to the cabin.
Local Attractions Sampler:
- Año Nuevo State Park is home to thousands of elephant seals.
- Pescadero State Beach has a mile-long shoreline with sandy coves, rocky cliffs, tide pools, fishing spots and picnic facilities.
- Pescadero Marsh Natural Preserve is a popular spot for bird watchers and other naturalists. The Preserve is a refuge for blue heron, kites, deer, raccoons, foxes and skunks.

2013 Capitol Improvements Update: The Girl Scouts of NorCal Council is in the process of obtaining permits and beginning construction of a new facility at Butano Creek located between the Dining Hall and Redwood Cabin. At this time it is unclear when or if this project will be started during your reservation. We will advise your group as soon as possible if the construction of the new building will have any impact on your reservation. If your reservation is impacted, we will try to locate alternative locations at council sites or give a complete refund.
Rate Information
To qualify for the Girl Scout rate, at least 60% of a group must be Girl Scout members registered with GSNorCal.
Please note, our properties are available for rent by Girl Scout and Non-Profit groups only.
